  • Tanta University and Silesian University of Technology Explore Prospects for Academic and Research Cooperation

Tanta University President Prof. Mohamed Hussein met today with Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, President of the Silesian University of Technology, at the Polish university's headquarters to discuss ways of enhancing academic and research collaboration between the two institutions, in line with Egypt's national strategy for higher education and scientific research. During the meeting, Prof. Hussein presented Tanta University’s infrastructure, academic capabilities, and prospects for collaboration. He highlighted the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education’s full support for international cooperation. Prof. Marek Pawełczyk also presented an overview of Silesian University of Technology and its academic strengths. Both sides engaged in detailed discussions regarding the initiation of a cooperation protocol, which would include the development and launch of joint academic programs at Tanta and Tanta National University. These programs would grant students dual degrees in mutually relevant fields such as Artificial Intelligence and its applications, Smart Cities, Nanotechnology in Industry, Mechatronics, Architecture, and Civil Engineering. The discussions also covered student exchange opportunities in training programs, leveraging both universities’ partnerships with industrial stakeholders. Additionally, faculty exchange possibilities were explored, as well as the opportunity for Tanta University students to study a full semester at Silesian University, gaining valuable international academic and cultural experiences. Likewise, Silesian students could undertake tailored summer training programs at Tanta University, similar to what is currently offered to students from the University of Bradford (UK). Further cooperation includes attracting international students through Tanta University’s Arabic Language Teaching Center for Non-Native Speakers, which supports Egypt’s national vision of internationalizing higher education. In this context, the President of Silesian University announced the provision of five annual scholarships for Tanta National University students, covering practical training or a full academic semester, with credits recognized within the newly introduced programs. In his remarks, Tanta University President Prof. Mohamed Hussein emphasized Tanta University’s strong commitment to expanding international partnerships with prestigious institutions like the Silesian University of Technology. He noted that such collaborations are a cornerstone in enhancing educational quality and scientific research at the university, aligning with national goals to increase the global competitiveness of Egyptian university graduates. On his part, Prof. Marek Pawełczyk welcomed Prof. Hussein and his accompanying delegation, expressing the Silesian University’s keenness to build strong academic and research bridges with top Egyptian universities. He highlighted that student and faculty exchanges and joint academic and research programs would be of significant value to both institutions and represent a key element in advancing higher education and research. The visit included tours of the laboratories and research centers at the Silesian University of Technology, as well as a visit to the university’s Student Innovation Center, which supports students across academic levels in developing their future competencies and nurturing both technical and interdisciplinary innovative ideas. Prof. Hussein also met with Tanta University’s students currently on Erasmus+ exchange programs in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science. Tanta University delegation included Prof. Mohamed Hussein, President of the University, accompanied by Prof. Saad Obeid, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering. They were welcomed by Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, President of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Sebastian Werle, Vice President for Scientific Affairs and International Cooperation, Prof. Tomasz Tanski, Head of the Department of Materials Engineering and Biomaterials, Prof. Wojciech Borek from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and Prof. Grzegorz Klapeta, Head of the International Relations Office.
